We have two great days coming up.
World Day of Social Justice 20th February – Justice goes beyond the court – it exists in daily lives. Do you have it?
International Women’s Day 8th March – Those nations prosper where women have rights. Where they are educated and think for themselves and lead creative lives.
Plan events for each of these days to ensure the rights of all. Your events improve attitudes and generate actions that support Human Rights. Conduct events in schools and colleges.
What is Social Justice?
Social justice is the concept that everyone deserves equal rights and opportunities, so they can achieve their full potential in life.
Answer the following questions to see if social justice exists in your community.
Do you see a widening gap in the lives of the rich and poor?
Do you see women lacking freedom of expression, decision making power or limited in career/education?
Do you see religious discrimination, that is to say, a person treated differently because he or she is Shia or Sunni or Hindu or Christian?
Do you see inequality based on the ethnic background of the person, for example, if they are Punjabi, Sindhi, Balochi…?
Do you see a person not getting a job because they are too young or too old or because they have a disability?
If the answer to the questions is mostly “yes” then you live in an unjust and biased community.
Unless you work to improve the situation, you stand at risk of living in a violent and corrupt society. In such a society, neither you nor your family’s rights are protected.
You can advance social justice when you remove barriers that people face because of gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture or disability.
Raise awareness of unjust discrimination, so that people can change their attitudes and bring about a fair and just society.
Celebrate with us the World Day of Social Justice by raising awareness of Rights, helping those whose rights are abused, or by doing some community work.
We are especially keen for teachers to raise awareness in their classes on this day for social justice. We also ask parents to talk to their children about social justice.
Share your news with us and become part of our network, bringing human rights to all.
I look forward to hearing from you.
