Thank you to all those who work with us to raise awareness of Human Rights at different levels of society.

If you have spared your time to educate one person on one human right, or if you guided someone on how to gain their human rights, or if you asked someone to grant another a human right, then you are highly valued by us.

Awareness of Human Rights creates unity between us all, whatever be our beliefs, religions, political views, gender or race. This awareness in itself enables people to grant rights to another and speak up for their own rights.

This Newsletter covers the activities of the start of the year. We have much more news to share with you. With the 100th Anniversary of International Women’s Day and the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, we have a special magazine coming out on “Discrimination in Society”.

Thank you to all those who are writing poems, essay and articles for the “Discrimination and its Effects in Pakistan” Magazine. This is going to be available to you on the web. You can write in Urdu or English. We would like people from all walks of life to write about their stories, experiences and about solutions you would like implemented, to make a fair and peaceful society. The closing date for this is 20th April 2011.

We are working towards creating a world where all are born free and equal; a society where there is no torture, no slavery and no form of discrimination.

Such a society will come about because we are united in our efforts to grant each other human rights.

No single person or group can bring this change. It requires the involvement of all of us working together and insisting on the rights of every single being, no matter what their religion, ethnicity, age or gender.

If we are waiting for someone else to bring this positive change, then we see no change for a long time to come. I make a simple request to you. I would like everyone to devote 3 to 6 hours per week by volunteering time to help someone gain their human rights. If you are a teacher you can educate the illiterate. If you are a nurse or doctor you can treat the sick. If you are lawyer or advocate you can guide the victim of injustice. If you are a student you can raise awareness of Human Rights. There is no end to the amount one can do to help another.

There is no greater satisfaction than having helped another.

Setting the example ourselves, we can then request others to do the same.

United in our e!orts we can improve conditions around us. We can create a caring and responsible society.

Volunteer groups are forming. Please create a group or become part of one close to you.
