It was a pleasure for me to be in Pakistan and attend conferences, conduct seminars and hold training sessions. I was impressed with the willingness of people to work hard towards creating a society where we can trust each other.

The thirty Human Rights are the basic agreements we should follow to ensure a decent life for all. We would like these to be the basis on which every decision is made in life. These thirty Human Rights should be on the desk of every manager, present on every organisation wall, displayed in every government office, hung by the front door of every police station and written in every students and teachers code of conduct book.

Most importantly these rights should be known by all mothers and wives, for these ladies help to create a new civilisation and cultivate values in this and the new generation.

As discussed in our previous newsletters, a society operates on the agreements of people in that society. Those agreements are yours and mine. That is the simplicity of how a society operates. It is based on what we all agree. Doing nothing about corruption, child beggars, illiteracy, joblessness, etc. means we agree with the situation continuing and so it does continue.

Late one night, during my visit to Karachi, I saw a policeman stop an innocent rickshaw driver and demand money for food and tea from him. Was the policeman taking away someone’s right by demanding this money? Yes he was!

Did I do something? Regrettably, no. And by doing nothing at that time, I assisted in agreeing with the misconduct of the policeman to continue to demand money from all drivers in the future, that includes myself and you.

Once we confront the truth, that whatever the state of our country on human rights violations today, we have played some part in making it like that. We did fail to act to change it, or to speak against the current situation or to prevent it occurring again in society. So as a result, over the years the situation has got worse. Once we realise this, we can then do something constructive. We can take on our duty and our role in bringing a better life to all those around us.

Would you like for people to be safe and live a life of dignity? If so, then let us unite now and improve the agreements of our society. We are making a Human Rights Manual which guides you to take action on anything you see as violating someone’s rights. Actions taken by you will help to strengthen survival agreements in our communities.

Through my visit to Pakistan, I observed the youth are certainly willing to learn and work with us. We are looking for committed volunteers. If you know of anyone that have a passion for Human Rights, then we need to hear from them.

It is now our duty to empower them with skills and abilities to create a better and humane society. Many of you have requested training sessions and also some would like these to be of a longer duration. Resources and funds are needed to plan out the details and we are working on these areas and similar projects to service you.

You are welcome to write to me on any issues that concerns you.

I would very much like to hear from you.
